What’s on during Open Weekend

This year’s London 2012 Open Weekend is this weekend 22-24 July 2011, marking the countdown to one year to go to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Dancing for the Games has several events over the weekend including Dancefest’s 12 Moves, DanceXchange’s Breathe the Beat, Dudley Performing Arts’ Making Links and Central Youth Theatre’s Everybody Dance Now, as well as Rosie Kay’s The Great Train Dance, and Birmingham Hippodrome and No Fit State circus’ Circus in the City.

Here are a selection of the events happening over the Open Weekend:

The Great Train Dance

In Worcestershire, Rosie Kay Dance Company brings the Severn Valley Railway to life with The Great Train Dance, a large-scale dance event performed on the train and inspired by a Hitchcock thriller.

Saturday 23 July, performances begin 11.15am and 3.15pm.

Circus in the City

A colourful array of circus skill and talent for you to participate in and enjoy. Expect flag flying, drum banging, hand balancing, picnicking, hula hooping and trapeze!

Breathe the Beat

Passers by are invited to learn a new hip hop dance from French sensation Salah.

Jamaica Live!

Jamaica Live!, a pop-up festival celebrating the Jamaica team’s visit to the city in 2012. Expect good times and good food with special guests Levi Roots, the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, Birmingham gospel sensation Monique and many more.

Making Links

Black Country dancers and local residents join forces to save this famous Heritage site. Come to Mushroom Green where you will be immersed in a unique site-specific performance where fantasy begins and history unfolds before your very eyes.

Everybody Dance Now

Central Youth Theatre brings some Glamour and Romance to Wolverhampton in special previews of the Everybody Dance Now Festival.

Dancefest: 12 Moves Flashmobs

Look out for 100 dancers in various locations through Worcestershire. You will see creatures coming alive by people dancing and starting a story that will continue to unfold up to March 2012.
