We Dance disability dance project
08 Feb 2012
We Dance is an exciting learning disability dance project, presenting regional community dance groups and acclaimed national companies and training new dance leaders to work with people with a learning disability in Birmingham.
It will culminate in a 2 day festival at mac on 13 and 14 July 2012 featuring performances, workshops, an exhibition and information stands.
The festival will include a new 2012 Games themed commission from Freefall (Birmingham Royal Ballet and Fox Hollies’ popular learning disability dance company), a showcase of new performances by local learning disabled community groups, outdoor performances of “SPUN productions”, from the internationally acclaimed inclusive dance company Stopgap, an exhibition of new dance films, and fun workshops for people with a learning disability.
The project will be filmed and will be shown as part of the festival on BBC live Sties throughout the UK. It is being organised by Mencap in association with Midlands Arts Centre (mac), Birmingham Royal Ballet, Fox Hollies School and Performing Arts College, and Midland Mencap.
