Breathe the Beat have announced the winner of their online dance competition, based around a series of online dance tutorials from renowned hip hop artist Salah. Once people had watched the tutorials, they were invited to upload their own routines for the chance to meet Salah and watch him perform live. The competition received entries from around the globe, including Libya, Uzbekistan and Brazil, and thousands of people watched and voted for their favourite routine.
Last week Breathe the Beat announced the 30 videos that had been shortlisted by a panel, including Salah, based on a range of factors, including creativity, originality, performance quality, popularity, but, importantly, they were also judged on how well they used elements from the tutorials.
From the shortlist, there could only be one winner, chosen by Salah himself, and the lucky entrant was James Jimenez (aka AnimatedJ), from Pennsylvania, USA.
Salah described James’ video as:
“A great video. It has a really nice solo, with a good wave and nice isolation. Really cool, I like the idea and nice mime and face…”
