The Great Train Dance
The Great Train Dance was a magical mystery journey that transformed the Severn Valley Railway on 23 July 2011.
In the months before the performance Rosie Kay worked with ten dance leaders from Shropshire, Worcestershire and the Black Country to deliver dance and choreographic training, enabling the leaders to deliver sessions to young people within their local area. These young people were then given the opportunity to perform alongside Rosie Kay’s professional dance company in two finale performances on the Severn Valley Railway.
During the show, dance was performed at each station and on the train itself by a host of bizarre characters, who invited the audience to solve a puzzle along the way. All was revealed and the puzzle was solved in a moving finale at the Engine House in Highley, featuring all 180 amateur dancers and the professional company.
